Sandra McKechnie - Singer/Songwriter

Sandra McKechnie is a dynamic, soul-stirring songstress and lyricist whose artistry captivates audiences with depth and inspiration. Born in Barbados, West Indies, Sandra immigrated to Toronto, Canada, at the age of eight, where she nurtured her passion for music and performance. With over 30 years of professional experience, Sandra’s journey has taken her across Southwestern Ontario, the Maritimes, and the United States, performing as a solo artist and keynote speaker. She has graced numerous stages, collaborated with esteemed musicians, and lent her powerful voice to benefit concerts and community initiatives. 

Her early career featured her in concerts and television appearances from the mid-'90s to the early 2000s, including her work with the renowned Toronto Mass Choir since 1992. Sandra has worked alongside a range of Canadian jazz and folk artists, including the late Sonya Sutton, Richard Uglow, and Norman Liota, as well as the Caribbean’s celebrated gospel artist Joseph Niles. 


Her collaborations extend beyond music, having worked with a dance troupe to enhance her performances, choreographed by Michelle Battikha of Dance In Motion. Sandra's discography includes three independent releases:

  • Songs By Sandra Taylor: Five Song Promo Cassette (1998) - Lead Vocalist, Writer. 
  • Worship Only You (1994) – Lead Vocalist, Writer. 

Beyond her music career, Sandra is also a certified Life Coach with a passion for people and is a dedicated advocate for cultural awareness and personal development. Since 2017, she has delivered Double Consciousness: Cultural Awareness Presentations as a keynote speaker and singer through Yonge Street Mission and virtual platforms. Her compassionate nature is also reflected in her work as an administrator, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in the community.
